Why Winfig Apps?¶

While Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) are a popular way to turn web services into desktop-like experiences, they rely on your browser as a backend. This means they often consume significant RAM and CPU, especially when running multiple apps or tabs.

Winfig Apps use Tauri, which leverages a lightweight system webview instead of a full browser engine. This approach offers:

Installation¶

To install Winfig Apps, follow these steps:

Visit the Winfig Apps GitHub Repository.
Download the latest release of the desired app.
Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
Launch the app from your desktop or start menu.

Local Development¶

To build and run Winfig Apps locally, ensure you have the following prerequisites installed:

Install Tauri CLI
Install Node.js (LTS version recommended)
Install NPM
Install Git

Installation¶

Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/get-winfig/winfig-apps.git
cd winfig-apps

Install dependencies:

Add your desired app in the scripts/apps.json file.

Add the app icon in the scripts/images folder with the name AppName.png.
Run icons script to generate necessary icon files:

npm run icons

Stage the changes:

git add .

Make commit to run release script:

git commit -m "release(AppName): Commit Message"

Run release script prepare the app:

npm run release

Build and package the app:

npm run build

The packaged app can be found in the src-tauri/target/release/bundle directory.

App Name : Name of the web service or application.
App URL : URL of the web service or application.
Category/Type of App : Category or type of the app (e.g., Web, Mobile, Desktop).
Region Restrictions : Any region restrictions for the app.
App Description : A brief description of the app and its functionality.
App Icon URL : URL to the app icon image.
Additional Information : Any other relevant information about the app.
